2027 Ford Bronco Changes: V6 Choices, RTR and Filson

The 2027 Ford Bronco gives buyers more ways to get a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6, but its two new series take different approaches to an off-road SUV. The Filson combines that engine with a more elaborate cabin, while the RTR uses a turbocharged four-cylinder and hardware developed for faster desert driving.
Ford’s October 12 lineup update also details seating changes, a wider availability of a heated steering wheel and new paint choices. The useful comparison is the equipment attached to each version: the new names alone do not describe the same kind of upgrade.
Where the 3.0-liter V6 becomes available
Ford lists the engine as available on Outer Banks, Badlands and Heritage and standard on Filson. In these applications it produces 380 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque. Sharing an engine architecture with the Bronco Raptor does not make these Broncos equivalent to a Raptor; configuration, calibration and chassis equipment still distinguish them.
| Version | What distinguishes it |
|---|---|
| Outer Banks, Badlands, Heritage | Available 380-hp, 3.0-liter V6 |
| Filson | Standard 3.0-liter V6; premium cabin; Sasquatch equipment |
| RTR | 2.3-liter four-cylinder; 10-speed automatic; desert-focused development |
That creates a practical reason to compare versions beyond horsepower. Someone drawn to a particular cabin or suspension configuration can assess that equipment alongside the engine, instead of assuming the largest engine determines the entire vehicle’s character.
RTR puts its emphasis on the chassis
The RTR development announcement, published in January, describes a four-door SUV with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine and 10-speed automatic transmission. Ford cites weight as a reason for that engine choice. Standard 33-inch tires and a high-clearance suspension are part of its setup.
The available Sasquatch package brings HOSS 3.0 suspension and Fox internal-bypass dampers. Ford also describes a larger cooling fan and a software anti-lag system for off-road use. Those are specific mechanical differences, rather than evidence that a similarly styled Bronco with a different option list has identical capability.
For a buyer comparing RTR configurations, the suspension package matters as much as the badge. The distinction between standard equipment and an optional package should stay visible in a price comparison. A photograph of the most extensively equipped example cannot establish what comes with the starting vehicle.
Filson adds refinement alongside trail equipment
Ford’s Filson introduction describes quilted leather, cabin storage bags and a rearview-mirror camera intended to preserve a view when cargo blocks the interior sightline. The Sasquatch package includes 35-inch tires and front and rear locking differentials, with Fox dampers tuned for this version.
That combination makes the Filson worth evaluating for both daily use and the equipment a shopper would otherwise add. Leather trim, tire size and suspension tuning answer different questions. None alone establishes how comfortable the vehicle will feel on a particular commute; this is an announcement review, without a firsthand road test.
Cabin changes reach other Broncos
For 2027, Outer Banks with the Lux Package moves to premium vinyl seating. Badlands gains an upgraded marine-grade vinyl option, including a power-adjustable seat. A heated steering wheel becomes available on Big Bend models equipped with the Mid Package. Neptune Blue replaces Velocity Blue, while Filson adds Field Green and Iron Sands Metallic.
Our 2026 Bronco fuel-economy comparison covers the earlier model year. Those figures should not be carried over as 2027 ratings without matching the engine, tires and certification. The releases reviewed here explain the product changes; they do not provide a complete 2027 U.S. price list or final fuel-economy comparison.
