Volkswagen’s U.S. preview confirms a redesigned 2027 Atlas Cross Sport with five seats, 282 horsepower and an available 15-inch center display.

Keep the Cross Sport and Atlas separate

The five-seat Cross Sport is a different choice from the regular Atlas. Volkswagen’s July 20, 2026 Atlas announcement describes that separate SUV as a seven-seater, with a standard second-row bench and a third row. Similar family names do not make their seating layouts or equipment interchangeable.

Start with the passenger layout you need before comparing trim names. If a third row is part of the plan, inspect the actual seats and access in the Atlas configuration being considered. If five seats meet the requirement, compare rear-seat space and the cargo opening with the people and belongings you normally carry. A model-family name cannot establish that fit.

Read “available” as a configuration question

Volkswagen’s U.S. Cross Sport preview lists an eight-speed automatic and front-wheel-drive or 4MOTION all-wheel-drive configurations. Front-seat massage, Nappa leather seating surfaces and the 15-inch display are listed as available.

Its Premium Speech feature requires compatible equipment, LTE and GPS. Connected services need the myVW app and account and an included or paid subscription; feature availability varies. A larger display and continuing access to a connected service are separate parts of the equipment comparison.

While parked, check how the particular vehicle handles everyday tasks such as changing the temperature, adjusting audio and connecting a phone. Identify which controls and functions you expect to use, then check which are included on that configuration and which depend on a subscription. The point is to compare the functions, rather than treating screen size as a complete usability score.

Build a matched comparison

The separate 2027 Atlas pricing guide explains the regular Atlas’s trim, drivetrain, destination and option prices. Those Atlas figures are not a Cross Sport price list. Keep the model and configuration attached to every specification or price you compare.

For a Cross Sport comparison, identify the intended equipment, then separate the vehicle price, destination, options and other charges on the particular offer. An announced feature and a priced vehicle are different pieces of information. The preview is useful for deciding what to examine; it does not identify a vehicle in stock or guarantee its equipment.
