Cadillac Vistiq Recall Adds Third-Row Seat Check
Recall update
NHTSA’s current summary of the Cadillac Vistiq third-row seat recall lists a software remedy, while posted GM repair documents describe disabling powered folding followed by module replacement. Certain 2026–2027 SUVs have seatbacks that can stop against an obstruction without reversing, potentially trapping a smaller occupant. The current federal record reports owner letters mailed August 6, 2026.

Those repair descriptions differ. Owners should have Cadillac confirm the current procedure for their VIN, particularly if the folding function has already been disabled under the posted interim instructions.
What happens when the seatback meets an obstruction?
GM’s July 24 recall filing describes third-row seatbacks that fold toward their stowed position after one press and release of a control. The relevant buttons are in the cargo area and beside the seat. If the moving seatback meets an obstruction, it can stop without automatically moving back toward its upright position.
Stopping and reversing have different consequences here. A stopped seatback can still leave a person trapped beneath it. GM identifies smaller occupants as particularly vulnerable; a folding seat that appears to work normally when empty does not establish that its obstruction response is corrected. Do not reproduce the condition with a person, pet or test object.
Which Vistiq vehicles are included?
The filing identifies 14,540 potentially involved U.S. vehicles using manufacturing records. That population includes two model years with different production periods:
| Model year | Potentially involved | Production period in GM’s filing |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 Vistiq | 13,629 | November 12, 2024–April 9, 2026 |
| 2027 Vistiq | 911 | January 16–June 15, 2026 |
The count describes the recall population, not a tally of injuries or seatbacks that have trapped someone. A model year or build date is useful context, but the vehicle identification number is the practical way to establish whether a particular SUV has an outstanding action.
Why the posted repair descriptions need a VIN-specific check
The earlier GM owner letter instructed owners to arrange dealer disablement of the folding feature while a replacement module was developed. That letter described a later, separate visit to restore the function with a new part.
By contrast, the current federal summary for 26V394000, reviewed October 16, specifies dealer reprogramming of the folding-seat-module software at no charge. It records August 6 as the actual mailing date. The dated letter explains what an owner may already have received. These public records do not establish when a different technical procedure was released or which instructions now apply to an individual SUV.
The summary does not establish which work a particular SUV has received or provide an appointment guarantee. Ask the dealer to reconcile any earlier disablement paperwork with the latest VIN-specific campaign instructions. A general infotainment update notification is not evidence that this seat-module action has been completed.
Folding operation and passenger seating are different questions
GM’s June customer acknowledgement explicitly distinguished disabling the folding feature from using the third row for seating. Its interim arrangement allowed the seats to remain functional for seating while powered folding was unavailable. That does not make a seat stowed in the cargo position a passenger seat.
Keep people clear of the folding path and prevent children from operating the controls around an occupied seat. If the feature has been disabled, have the dealer handle the next campaign step rather than reconnecting or modifying it yourself.
Check the VIN through NHTSA’s recall lookup and reference GM campaign N262555780 when contacting Cadillac at 1-800-333-4223. Keep the completed repair order with earlier campaign records so the actual work and any restoration of the folding function can be identified. NHTSA’s VIN results show unrepaired recalls; they are not a complete history of prior repairs.
