Jeep Wrangler And Gladiator Recall Adds Park-Outside Step

Recall and owner instructions

Jeep owners whose vehicles are included in recall 26V363 should park outside and away from buildings and other vehicles until the repair is completed. The campaign covers certain 2021–2025 Wrangler, Wrangler 4xe and Gladiator vehicles. The reported fire risk can exist while the vehicle is parked with the ignition switched off.

This is a power-steering electrical-connection recall. Its park-outside instruction is not limited to plug-in hybrids, and an owner should not wait for a steering symptom before checking whether the vehicle is included.

Why a steering connection can cause a parked-vehicle fire

The electric hydraulic power steering pump uses an electrical connection to supply its motor. In its recall filing, FCA describes connections that can develop excessive electrical resistance. Heat at that connection can melt material and ultimately start a fire.

The manufacturer’s investigation identified connector and terminal conditions that can prevent a fully sound connection. That explains why this campaign concerns wiring and potentially the pump itself. It is not described as a steering-fluid service, an infotainment update or a traction-battery repair.

FCA says some customers may experience loss of power-steering assistance. That is a possible warning, not a prerequisite for the defect. A vehicle that steers normally on its last trip can still have an outstanding recall and remain subject to the parking instruction.

Which Jeeps are in the U.S. recall?

The filing lists 1,076,999 potentially involved vehicles. The count is a manufacturing population, rather than a count of fires or confirmed failed connectors.

Vehicle group Model years Potentially involved in the filing
Wrangler, including Wrangler 4xe 2021–2025 787,887
Gladiator 2021–2025 289,112

Wrangler 4xe is included within the Wrangler population; it should not be added again as a third population. FCA used production records to identify the suspect vehicles. A model badge or year therefore does not establish whether an individual Jeep is included.

The parking instruction applies until repair

In its June 9 consumer alert, NHTSA specifically told affected owners to park outside and away from other vehicles and buildings until repaired. The agency’s warning includes vehicles parked with the ignition off; switching off the vehicle does not end the precaution.

That instruction is more specific than simply booking the next routine service. An owner who normally uses an attached garage needs to account for the parking restriction while arranging the recall work. The official notice for the VIN should guide any additional instructions; this campaign should not be confused with a separate Wrangler 4xe battery recall.

The repair and notification status

The current federal record, reviewed October 16, specifies inspection and replacement of the wiring and electric hydraulic power steering pump as necessary, free of charge. It identifies FCA campaign 21D.

The record still lists July 9, 2026 as an expected owner-notification date. That is a past notification target, not confirmation that a particular owner received a letter, that repair parts are available everywhere or that a vehicle has been fixed. The filing described a phased notification plan. Check the current action for the VIN rather than treating that old calendar date as repair completion.

Use the official Mopar lookup or NHTSA’s VIN lookup, then contact Jeep with campaign 21D to arrange the applicable work. FCA’s listed customer-service number is 1-800-853-1403. Keep the completed repair order: it documents what was inspected or replaced, while a general service receipt or absence of symptoms does not establish recall completion.
