The 2027 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk returns with a gasoline turbocharged four-cylinder, low-range four-wheel drive and air suspension. The Overland returns alongside it with some of the same driveline hardware, but a different wheel, camera and cabin specification. The distinction is more useful than treating one as an off-road SUV and the other as merely a luxury package.

2027 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk and Overland both have Quadra-Trac II with a two-speed transfer case and Quadra-Lift. Announced Trailhawk has 18-inch wheels, all-terrain tires and TrailCam dynamic tire path; Overland has 21-inch wheels and a 360-degree surround-view camera with washer.

A gasoline Trailhawk with specific equipment

Jeep’s June 15, 2026 announcement identifies a 2.0-liter Hurricane 4 Turbo engine rated at 324 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic. This is the announced gasoline model, rather than a carryover specification for an earlier Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid.

Trailhawk equipment includes Quadra-Trac II with a two-speed transfer case, Rock mode, a rear electronic limited-slip differential and Quadra-Lift air suspension with electronic semi-active damping. The announcement also specifies 30.5-inch all-terrain tires and six steel skid plates. These give the trim a defined hardware identity, without establishing that a particular obstacle or route is suitable.

Read maximum clearance as a maximum

Jeep lists up to 11.4 inches of ground clearance for the Trailhawk. That is a maximum specification for a vehicle with adjustable air suspension, not a statement that it always rides at that height. The wheel-and-tire package, low-range transfer case and underbody protection are separate parts of its capability; the clearance number cannot replace those distinctions.

The launch announcement also lists a 6,200-pound maximum towing capacity and a standard Trailer Tow Package. A maximum rating is not the weight every loaded vehicle can automatically tow. The particular vehicle’s limits, occupants, cargo and trailer configuration still govern the usable combination; the package name alone does not calculate it.

Overland shares more than the name

The current 2027 Grand Cherokee overview continues to identify Overland’s air suspension and two-speed transfer case, alongside its 21-inch wheels. Those details matter when comparing the trims: an Overland badge does not imply that its low-range capability has been replaced by appearance changes.

The same overview distinguishes the two-row Grand Cherokee, with seating for up to five, from the Grand Cherokee L’s three rows and seating for up to seven. The Trailhawk announcement should not be read as a specification for every Grand Cherokee body style. A family needing a third row has a different model question before wheel size or trail equipment enters the comparison.

The launch timeline and a current purchase

The June announcement planned dealer arrivals later in 2026 and deferred prices and further details. Those statements describe the announcement’s timing; they do not establish today’s stock, an individual delivery commitment or a current offer. The specifications here explain what Jeep announced and how the two trims differ, without turning a launch plan into a claim that a particular vehicle is available.
