2025 Wrangler 4xe Backcountry: Equipment and Recall Checks
Used-vehicle research
Updated October 16, 2026
The 2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Backcountry was a Sahara-based plug-in-hybrid edition with added trail equipment and cabin features. Its launch specification explains the package; a current purchase also requires checking the individual vehicle’s equipment and recall history. Jeep now lists Wrangler 4xe as discontinued, so the original ordering announcement should be read in its historical context.

What Jeep announced in February 2025
Jeep’s February 19 announcement limited Backcountry to 5,800 vehicles for North America. It quoted a $64,290 U.S. MSRP plus $1,895 destination: $66,185 before taxes, registration and other applicable charges. Those are launch figures, not a current selling price or confirmation that an example remains available.
| Area | Announced equipment |
|---|---|
| Exterior protection | Front and rear steel bumpers, rock rails and a Mopar grille guard |
| Wheels and tires | 20-inch wheels with 275/55R20 General Grabber A/T tires |
| Trail and trailer equipment | Front TrailCam and Trailer Tow package |
| Cabin and roof | Nine-speaker Alpine audio, GPS navigation and a three-piece body-color hardtop |
| Accessory power | Jeep Power Box using the 4xe charge port |
The announcement also distinguished included trail guides from a larger library requiring a premium subscription. Check current account terms and the vehicle’s installed equipment rather than assuming every digital service or accessory remains included. A limited production figure establishes neither a resale premium nor the condition of a particular Jeep.
Keep the launch story separate from today’s ownership question
Jeep’s current 4xe resources page says Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe are no longer in production. That does not identify a particular vehicle’s stock status, warranty coverage or completed repairs. Those questions require the actual VIN and its records.
When evaluating a used Backcountry, compare the original equipment record with the vehicle in front of you. Tires, roof equipment and accessories can change during ownership. A model announcement cannot confirm that the original parts are still fitted, that a camera operates correctly or that a trailer setup is suitable for a planned load.
Check the battery campaign by VIN
The December 18, 2025 report for NHTSA recall 25V741, Jeep campaign 68C, includes certain 2020–2025 Wrangler plug-in hybrids. It describes a high-voltage battery defect that can lead to fire and advises affected owners not to recharge and to park away from structures or other vehicles until the remedy is obtained. Follow the current instructions for the affected VIN.
That report describes a software remedy followed by battery replacement if needed. It does not say every vehicle receives a battery. It also does not prove that an individual Jeep has completed the work. Ask for the VIN-specific recall status and repair record, rather than treating a mailed notice or a charging demonstration as completion evidence.
NHTSA’s initial 25V741 acknowledgement expressly says vehicles recalled under 24V720 or 23V787 still need the new remedy. An invoice for an earlier campaign therefore should not be accepted as proof that 68C is closed. Its early “remedy under development” wording is historical; the later December report describes the remedy.
The engine campaign is a separate check
The March 24, 2026 report for 25V766, campaign 78C, covers certain Wrangler 4xe vehicles, including affected 2025 examples. It concerns engine contamination that can cause catastrophic failure, fire or loss of propulsion. Its remedy uses powertrain-control software to monitor for a pending bearing failure, with engine replacement when the specified finding is confirmed.
Check each applicable campaign separately; a completed battery repair does not establish that an engine campaign is closed. These documents are examples of relevant campaigns, not a complete recall list or a finding that every Backcountry is affected. Resolve current VIN-specific instructions before planning a test drive, charging session or trip.
