2027 Audi Q9 Debuts as a 429-HP Three-Row Flagship SUV

Audi unveiled the 2027 Q9 on July 29 as its first large full-size SUV and the new flagship of its vehicle lineup. The official world-premiere release emphasizes three-row space, standard quattro all-wheel drive, adaptive suspension technology, advanced driver assistance and new lighting features. For shoppers, the important news is that Audi now has a model positioned above the Q7 and Q8 for families that need more passenger and cargo room.

The Audi USA Q9 overview lists a twin-turbo V6 with up to 429 horsepower, a claimed 4.9-second run from zero to 60 mph and standard adaptive air suspension. Audi also lists as much as 87.7 cubic feet of cargo capacity with the second and third rows folded. Those figures put performance and utility at the center of the Q9’s U.S. story, although final equipment can vary by configuration.

Seating is available for six or seven passengers. The seven-seat layout provides a second-row bench, while the six-seat configuration uses individual second-row seats. Audi says the second-row seats can move electrically to improve third-row access, including with a child seat fitted. Third-row seatbacks can also fold individually, which allows owners to balance passenger space with cargo capacity.

Audi is also using the Q9 to introduce new comfort features. The company’s interior preview details available automatic doors with obstacle detection, a panoramic sunroof of more than 1.5 square meters, multiple USB-C charging points and an available 22-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system. The automatic doors are designed to stop if sensors detect an object or approaching road user in their path.

Driver-assistance features deserve the same hands-on comparison. Audi says the Q9 will offer a Level 2 hands-free system on approved highways in the United States, Canada and Germany. The system can steer, accelerate and brake within its operating limits, but the driver remains responsible and must continue watching the road. Audi says the Q9 will launch in North America and Europe in the fourth quarter of 2026, according to its July 27 company update. The global launch release quotes a starting price for a diesel-powered German-market model, but that figure should not be treated as a U.S. MSRP.
