Chrysler Pacifica Recall Covers Side Air Bag Check
Chrysler is recalling select 2022-2026 Pacifica and Voyager minivans for a side curtain air bag issue, according to NHTSA recall data. The recall matters for family-vehicle owners and used-minivan shoppers because the remedy may involve replacing the side curtain air bags as needed.
NHTSA campaign 26V189000 says the right and left side curtain air bags may have insufficient pressure retention because of improperly sealed seams. The agency says the condition means the vehicles may not comply with the federal ejection-mitigation standard.
Cars.com reported that the recall covers more than 178,000 Pacifica and Voyager minivans. Car and Driver also covered the recall and noted that affected vehicles span recent model years.
NHTSA lists the remedy as dealer replacement of the side curtain air bags as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 14, 2026, and the recall expands and replaces earlier NHTSA recall numbers 25V302 and 25V573.
That replacement note is important. NHTSA says vehicles previously repaired under a prior recall will need to have the new remedy completed. Owners should not assume an earlier repair automatically closes the current campaign.
For used minivan shoppers, recall status should be checked by VIN before purchase. A Pacifica or Voyager can be a practical family vehicle, but shoppers should confirm whether the recall is open, whether the new remedy has been completed and whether paperwork is available.
The recall also shows why minivan shopping should include more than mileage and price. Families should evaluate air bag and seat-belt recalls, tire condition, brake condition, sliding-door operation, car-seat fit, cargo space and service records.
Pacifica Hybrid shoppers should also confirm the exact powertrain and warranty coverage because ownership questions can differ from a gas-only minivan. Charging habits, battery coverage and routine service records should be reviewed with the same care as recall status.
Trade-in customers can prepare by checking the VIN and keeping recall notices or repair orders with the rest of the vehicle file. Owners considering whether to trade their vehicle should make recall status part of the appraisal discussion.
Maintenance costs still matter for family vehicles. Tires, brakes, batteries, alignments, suspension items and routine inspections affect real ownership cost. A service and ownership-cost review helps shoppers compare a used minivan against a used three-row SUV.
Financing is part of the same decision. A lower-priced used minivan may fit the payment, but repair history and open recalls should still be reviewed before delivery. Families can compare auto financing with the likely cost of keeping the vehicle in good condition.
What Owners Should Know
Owners should use the NHTSA recall lookup or Chrysler owner resources to check the VIN. If included, they should follow the owner notice and schedule the remedy when parts and service instructions are available.
Shoppers should ask for recall documentation before finalizing a used-minivan purchase. A completed recall, clean inspection and organized maintenance history can make a family vehicle easier to evaluate. Related owner-help updates are available through the automotive news hub.
