Toyota Land Cruiser Fuel-Leak Recall: Models and Repair

Toyota is recalling certain 2024–2027 Land Cruiser SUVs in the United States because a fuel-tube connection can separate and leak gasoline. The company announced the campaign on October 14, estimating that approximately 106,000 vehicles are involved. Owners should check their individual vehicle’s recall status rather than assume that every Land Cruiser within those model years needs the repair.
The announced remedy addresses a connection near the fuel tank. Toyota says dealers will inspect it and add a supplemental clamp, replacing the resin fuel tube when necessary. The work will be performed at no cost. Owner notification is planned by mid-December 2026; that mailing window is not confirmation that a particular vehicle has already been repaired.
What Toyota says can happen
In its October recall announcement, Toyota describes fuel escaping after the connection separates, until the engine in the hybrid system shuts off. Gasoline leaking near an ignition source raises the risk of fire.
The engine shutting off is part of the described failure sequence, not a reason to dismiss the leak. The relevant question is whether the connection on an affected vehicle has received the prescribed inspection and repair. A vehicle’s hybrid badge, trim level or appearance cannot answer that question.
Toyota’s published notice does not give owners a procedure for inspecting or tightening the connection themselves. The remedy is dealer work. It also does not provide a blanket park-outside or do-not-drive instruction. Owners should follow any vehicle-specific directions from Toyota rather than borrow instructions from an unrelated recall.
Check the VIN before waiting for a letter
The Toyota recall lookup accepts a vehicle identification number or license plate information. The VIN identifies the individual vehicle; searching by model year alone provides a broader list of possible campaigns. Toyota also lists its Brand Engagement Center at 800-331-4331 for questions.
NHTSA’s recall search makes an important distinction: a VIN result identifies unrepaired recalls, while a year, make and model search supplies general information. NHTSA also cautions that recently announced recalls may not yet include every affected VIN in the lookup. An initial blank result therefore should not be treated as a permanent answer if the manufacturer subsequently contacts the owner.
When arranging service, identify this as the October fuel-tube campaign and ask the dealer to confirm eligibility and repair availability for the actual VIN. Keep the resulting repair documentation. An appointment booking, an inspection report and a completed recall repair describe different stages of the process.
This is separate from the earlier display recall
Some Land Cruiser owners may remember Toyota’s May 27 display announcement. That campaign involved certain 2024–2025 Land Cruisers and other Toyota and Lexus models, addressing portions of a 12.3-inch instrument display that could go blank at startup. Its announced remedy was a software update.
The two issues concern different components and require different work. Documentation for a display update does not establish that the fuel connection has been inspected, and the October campaign does not mean a previous display repair failed. Compare the campaign descriptions and repair records instead of treating “recall completed” as a single permanent status for the vehicle.
What a used-Land Cruiser buyer should verify
The same VIN-based check is useful before buying one of these SUVs. Request records for completed campaigns and compare them with the current manufacturer lookup. A clean-looking vehicle or an absence of warning lights is not evidence that a specific recall remedy was performed.
Keep the decision tied to the exact vehicle: whether it is included, what Toyota currently prescribes and whether that work is documented. The announcement supplies a defined inspection and repair path; it does not establish the condition of every 2024–2027 Land Cruiser on the road.
