2027 Kia Telluride Seat Belt Recall: Scope and Remedy
Kia seat belt recall
Kia recall SC372 concerns the driver’s seat belt in certain 2027 Telluride and Telluride Hybrid vehicles. The emergency locking retractor can prevent the belt webbing from extending. The documented remedy is a replacement driver’s seat belt assembly, but identifying an affected vehicle and establishing that its repair was completed are separate checks.

Which 2027 Tellurides are included?
Kia’s June 2, 2026 manufacturer filing identifies 6,264 potentially involved vehicles across two versions. The gasoline Telluride and Telluride Hybrid have the same starting production date, but their affected production periods end on different days.
| 2027 model | Production period in the filing | Potentially involved |
|---|---|---|
| Telluride, gasoline | March 24–May 10, 2026 | 1,897 |
| Telluride Hybrid | March 24–May 12, 2026 | 4,367 |
Those two groups add to the campaign total of 6,264. That is the potentially involved population, not a count of failed belts or vehicles still awaiting repair. The same total appears in both model rows of NHTSA’s data; adding those repeated totals would double-count the campaign.
Kia determined the population from supplier and vehicle production records and says the vehicles were not built in VIN order. A model name, build month or nearby VIN therefore cannot settle whether one vehicle is included. The different build periods are useful context for a VIN-specific inquiry.

Why the driver’s belt may not extend
The filing describes an incorrect vehicle sensor installed within certain driver’s seat belt assemblies. Under some conditions, it can activate the emergency locking retractor while the webbing is being extended. The driver may then be unable to use the belt as an occupant restraint.
This is a noncompliance recall under Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 209, “Seat Belt Assemblies.” NHTSA’s June 4 acknowledgement identifies the same standard and explains the increased crash-injury risk when the belt cannot restrain the occupant. SC372 specifically concerns the driver’s assembly; it does not describe replacement of every belt in the vehicle.
What the replacement changes
The replacement assembly contains the correct vehicle sensor. NHTSA’s campaign record describes the dealer replacement as free of charge. A belt that happens to extend on one occasion does not establish that this replacement has been carried out, particularly when Kia describes the locking condition as dependent on circumstances.
If the driver’s belt will not extend, contact Kia for assistance with that vehicle. Record the symptom and campaign number without forcing the belt, altering restraint components or attempting a demonstration drive. Ask Kia to confirm the VIN’s campaign status and the applicable next step.
Separate the notice schedule from current repair status
The June filing and acknowledgement planned owner letters for July 31, 2026. As checked on October 16, NHTSA’s campaign API still says letters are “expected” on that date. That wording records a forecast; it does not confirm an actual mailing or delivery to a particular owner.
Kia’s June 3 new-vehicle delivery-hold notice also listed remedy availability as undetermined. That dated notice documents the early rollout, rather than today’s parts supply or appointment availability. Its new-vehicle delivery restriction is separate from instructions for an individual owner; it does not establish that the hold is still active or has been lifted.
Keep VIN status and repair evidence together
Use Kia’s official recall page or contact Kia at 1-800-333-4542 with SC372 and the VIN. Ask for current repair arrangements and, if the campaign is recorded as completed, the matching repair record. A notification letter establishes communication, while a dated record tied to the VIN documents the work reported.
NHTSA’s VIN-search guidance distinguishes unrepaired recalls from general model-year results and excludes recalls already repaired. A lookup result therefore serves a different purpose from a complete repair history. Keep the campaign identifier, current VIN result and completed-work documentation together when reviewing this specific restraint recall.
